Elopements

Every now and again, I make connections in this industry with other wedding professionals, and I know instantly I want to work with them. When I had the opportunity to work with Chas of Wildflower Portland on Lydia & Julia’s Oregon Coast elopement, I jumped on it. It’s impossible to name a favorite part of this session.  Lydia & Julia are a lovely couple, the florals were magic, and, I mean, just look at the location!

Silver Falls Oregon Wedding

Silver Falls is one of those places that almost doesn’t feel real until you’re standing in it. Towering trees, lush greenery, and waterfalls tucked into the landscape create a setting that feels both expansive and intimate at the same time. It’s no surprise Lydia and Julia chose this location for their Oregon Coast elopement.

One of the things I love most about this area is how accessible it is without sacrificing the experience. It’s an easy drive in and the hike is minimal, which makes it ideal for couples who want stunning scenery without committing to a long trek. This way, you still get those iconic Pacific Northwest views, but with a little more flexibility in your timeline and energy.

Silver Falls is a popular location (and for good reason), so choosing a weekday made a huge difference. It gave Lydia and Julia space to slow down, explore, and be fully present with each other minus a crowd. That quieter atmosphere allowed for more natural, candid moments, which is exactly what an elopement like this is all about.

Elope in Portland Oregon

If you’re considering eloping in Portland or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, there are a few things to keep in mind that can really shape your experience.

Timing an Oregon Elopement

First, think about timing. Weekdays often mean fewer crowds, especially in well-known locations like Silver Falls. That alone can completely change the feel of your day.

Oregon Elopement Requirements

Next, consider logistics. Some locations require permits, especially if you’re planning to elope in a national park or protected area. It’s always worth checking ahead of time so there are no surprises.

What to Wear for a PNW Elopement

Footwear is another big one to plan ahead. Even with a relatively easy walk like this one, you’ll want something comfortable and practical for navigating trails, rocks, or water. And speaking of water, don’t be afraid to lean into the environment! Lydia and Julia stepped right into the river in their dresses, and it created some of the most memorable images from the day. That willingness to embrace the setting instead of working around it is what makes elopements in this region feel so unique.

Think Outside the Box

Finally, remember that there are no rules. If you want a quiet, private elopement followed by a larger celebration back home, you can absolutely do both! In fact, I’ve photographed several couples who opted for exactly this. Your day can look however you want it to, and that flexibility is what draws so many couples to eloping in the first place.

Lydia and Julia’s day felt relaxed, creative, and completely their own. They explored the forest, wandered along the water, and took time to enjoy the experience instead of rushing through it. This included taking time to enjoy the playful picnic setup filled with fresh fruit and thoughtfully designed florals by Wildflower Portland.

Chas’ eye for design is pure magic. The styling blended beautifully with the natural surroundings. Soft fabrics, flowing silhouettes, and organic textures complemented the landscape rather than competing with it. The florals added just enough color and movement, tying everything together without overwhelming the scene.

What stood out most, though, was how present they were with each other. Whether they were walking hand in hand along the riverbed or sharing a quiet moment taking in the scenery, nothing felt forced. That’s the beauty of an elopement like this. It gives you the space to exist in the moment and let your story unfold naturally.
