Burns Bluff at High Falls Wedding: A Joyous Mountain Wedding in Alabama

I knew from the information they sent me in their initial inquiry email that shooting Allison and Daniel’s Burns Bluff wedding would be a dream and I was right! They were clear from the beginning that their wedding in North Alabama would be out-of-the-box.  Allison & Daniel would be planning a day that suited their taste rather than what would be expected of them in a more traditional wedding.  Part of that dream included a cinematographic approach to their photos, and we were happy to accomplish that.

A Birmingham Love Story

Allison shared with me the story of how she and Daniel met working on the Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign, and it’s one for the books.  Their work landed them working together in Iowa, South Carolina, and after Daniel strategically leaked to a coworker that he had a crush on Allison, they were slated together again… in March of 2020.  After just a couple of dates, the world shut down, and Allison took a leap of faith to make the drive from Ohio to Birmingham for what she thought would be a 2-week stay with Daniel.  Those two weeks turned to three years in Birmingham together, and now a forever date.  Their love story inspired many of the choices behind their wedding day and showcased their personalities perfectly.

Burns Bluff at High Falls

This wedding venue roughly 1.75 hours away from Birmingham is a beautiful hidden gem.  Burns Bluff is surrounded by captivating views, nature, and they’re very pretty all-inclusive to boot.  The property is spacious enough for guests to stay in cabins located on the property, they have props and decor available for rental, and the getting ready spaces are incredible.  TRUST ME, this wedding is so worth the drive!  With various options for ceremony locations including an outdoor chapel with a view, a charn (chapel barn), and an outdoor ceremony spot, it was a no-brainer as to why Allison & Daniel chose it as their mountain wedding venue in Alabama.

Alabama Event Planning

Allison and Daniel’s dream for their wedding was to genuinely enjoy spending time with their friends and family throughout the wedding weekend and celebrating the joining of their families.  Because of Allison’s experience working in the event planning industry, she set out to alleviate a lot of the stress that is typically experienced on a wedding day, and she succeeded (with some help from the amazing Aspen with Simone Event Planning.) The vibe was so relaxed as they got ready for their Alabama nuptials and they kept it chill for the wedding party which was a collective group of close friends.  Instead of traditional matching wardrobes, the bridal party was encouraged to wear whatever they preferred in fun colors.

High Falls Alabama Ceremony

Daniel & Allison love big, and it shone through the many intentional details during their joy-filled High Falls wedding! The entire event was colorful, fun, and a whole vibe from start to finish!  Both the bride & groom had first looks with their parents before having private vows on a cliff with breathtaking views.  Allison walked down the aisle with her father right after their dog, Whispy, walked down. They then had a moment of silence for meditation before passing their rings around for warming and blessing.  This beautiful ceremony was officiated by their close friend, Kelsey, who -like many of us- had a hard time keeping it together but spoke powerfully over the newlyweds. It was truly one of the most beautiful ceremonies I’ve witnessed.

Colorful Alabama Wedding Reception

Following their vows, Allison and Daniel hit the reception which was super fun!  From the colorful florals and decorations to the disco ball that added a touch of whimsy while illuminating the faces of their guests, every detail was fitting for this couple.  Many of their friends who worked the campaign with them and saw the birth of their relationship were in attendance.  It was only fitting that we snap a photo of them holding the campaign banner.  “A future to believe in,” indeed! This couple was a dream to work with and we had a blast photographing the start of what is sure to be an amazing marriage. Congrats, guys!
